I´m out of the Closet
It all started months ago when my friend and classmate Ellen told me about her year as an au pair ( it´s about 7 years ago when she worked as an au pair ) and told be all these stories about the family she worked for. I opend my ears and started to ask her more questions about her time in USA, what it was like being an au pair and staying in a family who´s not your own. I found it all Very interesting. I have been thinking about going as an au pair before but realized I had to take care of young children and then realized I have no idea what that would be like.
Anyway. Ellen told be about her hostfamily and asked me if she should ask them if they were in need of an au pair this fall. First I thought it would be awesome but didn´t wanted to get to hopeful. She mailed the hostmum and got a positve response. That´s how it all started. After mailing for some weeks I started to fill in the application for the organisation the family already was a member in. It felt like the Perfect family I´d now found!
They have two children, but they are almost not children anymore but teens. One boy at 13 y and one girl at 16. I thought this was perfect since they were older and I belive I´m better whit older children than small children. I´ve also
But let me say this, there´s a LOT of pappers to be filled, photos to be taken, insurance to be fixed and lots and lots of more when you´re applying for beeing an au pair. Just the visa is one hell of an job. You must fill in several of papperworks and send inall sort of important pappers and get an policerecord of yourself. You must also take a photo which is 5*5 cm and luckly I found an photographer today do to the job. I aslo must go to Stockholm to the US ambassady to get my visa. So I´m going to Stockholm the 29th July, to go to the ambassady the first thing in the morning.
What more to say? Well, if you have read Idas blog you would read the story about her going aswell. I kind of hooked her up whit another family. And for you guys who don´t
we don´t see eachothers very often but have a close contact anyway. It feels Great having her in the US so close to where I will be living, then we can share happy and mayby less happy days aswell together.
The only thing is that Ida is leaving 3 weeks before myself, so she´s departing the 27th July and I´m the 19th of August.
Hopefully she will give me an warm welcome and help me catch up whit her. Although I´ve been to the
US ones before, I would be nothing like it. I also hope she´ll spend her last time well with friends and family and don´t forget to pack a lot of swedish candy whit her so she won´t eat all of mine when I get there ;).
Well now I´ve been carried away, if you have any questions please comment this input and I´ll answer you. I also hope I´ll get some au pairs blogs aswell who will comment so I can follow them too.
You migh ask why I write in english, that´s becouse I want to work on my spelling and I also find it easier to express myself in eng. I promise you I´ll consider writing in swedish insteed soon, I know there are some who´d like me to change so there´s a big chance. I want to take the chance to say sorry for all my miss spellings and gramma.
Well hope you´d enjoyed my first input as an Au Pair.
Catch you on the flip side!
Hej,
